Divine Detours: When the Universe Takes the Wheel

Updated: Feb 23

Years ago, I was driving back to New York after a trip to Massachusetts to visit family with my then-boyfriend. The rain was relentless, hammering the windshield so hard it felt like my wipers were fighting a losing battle.

Puddles the size of small lakes pooled across the highway, and visibility was almost nonexistent. Every car around me felt like a moving threat, unpredictable and dangerous.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw it - a massive 18-wheeler to my right, steady and unshakable, cutting steadily through the downpour.

And then, in a heartbeat, everything changed.

A car darted in front of the truck. Too close. Too fast. The truck driver had no choice - he swerved. Straight into my lane.

Instinct screamed at me to react, but I knew - slamming the brakes would send me spinning. There was nowhere to go. The impact felt inevitable.

But then, something I still can’t explain happened.

It was as if an invisible force reached out and pulled my car back, holding it just outside the danger zone. One second, disaster was unavoidable. The next, we were untouched.

My boyfriend and I sat there in stunned silence.

What had just happened? How were we still here?

Logic had no answer, but deep down, I knew - something far greater than me had stepped in, probably saving our lives.

That moment changed me forever.

That was the kind of Divine intervention you can’t argue with.

But - let’s be real - most guidance doesn’t come in the form of supernatural road assistance. I haven’t had a life saving moment quite that obvious since. (Or maybe I have, and it just looked like taking a different route home or getting stuck at a red light that lasted an eternity.)

What I have had, though, are the quieter nudges. The ones without flashing lights or dramatic slow-motion moments.

Sometimes, it’s a whisper.

Once, it was a pretty loud, stern command.

Often, it’s simply a feeling - an unshakable knowing - something I can’t explain, but I just know.

And, okay, I definitely have experiences of crazy things happening - like lightbulbs shattering, tv's and radios inexplicably turning on, objects disappearing and reappearing in spots I know I already checked. Stories for another day, but safe to say all these moments have strengthened my trust that there are higher powers at play.

Over time, I’ve learned to depend on this guidance - not just in moments of crisis, but in the everyday choices that shape my life.

It has led me to opportunities, relationships, and paths I never could have predicted, as well as a few timely grand leaps of faith.

And every time I follow it, I strengthen my trust in it, for it has never led me astray - even if I didn't fully see or understand it in the moment.

And because I want to help you connect with your own inner guidance, this week’s five minute fix meditation is designed to help you do just that. It’s time to tune out the noise, turn inward, and remember - the answers are never outside of you -they are always within.
